Frequently Asked Questions
What are you studying?
We are studying the interaction between intimate partner relationship factors, access to healthcare, and adherence to PrEP, if applicable.
Why are you only enrolling cisgender men?
We recognize that within the LGBTQ+ community, there are various subsets of people that experience different factors related to intimate relationships and HIV. This study is looking at one part of that community to understand specific factors related to cisgender men. We have other studies that focus on different communities.
What do I have to do?
You will need to take an online survey every three months and come to a clinic visit at our University of Michigan site in Ann Arbor every six months for specimen collection.
How do I get paid?
After you complete a project milestone at three month intervals (survey or survey and specimen together), you will receive an incentive. For the in-person visits, we will provide you with the gift card directly. For the online surveys, we will email a virtual gift card to the email address you provide on the screener. It doesn't have to be your personal email address. You can even make a new one for the study, but you should be sure to check it often for milestone reminders, survey links, and clinic visit scheduling.
Can I participate?
This study is for HIV negative, cisgender gay/bisexual men who have been in a relationship with another man for at least six months and who will live continuously in Southeast Michigan for the next two years. If this sounds like you, please apply to see if you are eligible.
Can my partner participate?
No, only one member of a relationship can participate. We have a limited sample size, and we want to include as many different people as possible.
